BIO

Lisa is as surprised as anyone to find herself the author of If You Love Me, You’d Stop! and this blog. Her focus on alcoholism, addiction, alcohol abuse (excessive drinking), codependency, dual diagnoses, underage drinking and related issues seems so out of keeping with the subjects of her six published non-fiction books and her nationwide presentations on women’s history. Yet, her new work is consistent with her long-time writing, speaking and consulting career. Namely, when Lisa sees a problem, she digs in and researches until she understands it and believes she has the most current information and qualified sources. Then she shares what she’s learned through easy-to-understand books, illuminating articles and dynamic presentations.

The variety of subjects that Lisa has either published or spoken on is wide-ranging and includes: civil and women’s rights issues, results-oriented workplace initiatives, women’s history month celebrations, career search and job hunt techniques and voter registration and empowerment. Her books include such titles as Freedom Cannot Rest, Ella Baker and the Civil Rights Movement, Failure is Impossible! The Story of Susan B. Anthony and Job Hunt: Find it, Get it, Keep it (all written under Lisa’s former last name which she no longer uses.)

With that background, what drove Lisa to write a book on alcoholism and alcohol abuse? To become well-versed in addiction, co-dependency, teen drinking, and all the other topics featured in this website? The answer lies in her book If You Loved Me, You’d Stop! What You Really Need to Know When Your Loved One Drinks Too Much.

Lisa Frederiksen’s story goes beyond her decades of experience with friends and family alcoholism and alcohol abuse, however. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California at Davis in 1975 and worked during the subsequent twenty-year period as an Operations Officer for a bank; an Executive Director for a state licensing board and an Executive Vice President for a professional trade association. Her responsibilities were varied and included: human resources; budget and cost control; products and services design and development; project planning and execution; team building; public relations; legislative advocacy; organizational structuring, policies and procedures; copy writing of all types and working with volunteer Boards of Directors and committees.

In 1996, Lisa left the executive management arena to move to the Bay area. She started her own consulting business to companies and nonprofit groups to manage projects, develop and revise their human resources policies and create marketing / informational copy and website content. She also pursued a long-held dream of writing for publication, which has resulted in the books and articles referenced previously. In 2000, Lisa began giving presentations on the subjects of her books.

Today, Lisa focuses her work on alcohol-related issues and women’s history.  She lectures on alcohol-related issues at The Sequoia Center, a drug and alcohol treatment center in Redwood City, California; and she has given presentations on these issues to a variety of groups, ranging from Stanford Medical School students and Sequoia Hospital Emergency Room doctors, to organizations such as Lane County Domestic Violence Council, Fort Irwin U.S. Army National Training Center, San Mateo County American Bar Association, Family Law Section, NAMI Santa Clara County and the Palo Alto Drug and Alcohol Collaborative. She is also a nationally recognized speaker on women’s history and has appeared as a guest on television, radio and Internet broadcast programs for interviews in both of her focus areas.
