How Prescription Pain Meds Can Destroy Lives – SLLiP Film

Wow… after watching the trailer (below) for SLLiP (Pills spelled backwards), I immediately wanted to watch the full 25-minute film. And I was not disappointed.

It’s powerful, accurate, thought-provoking and enlightening. It’s outstanding because it captures addiction for what it is – a developmental, chronic, often relapsing brain disease; it captures what can happen when prescription pain meds are misused.

Written by its lead actor, Ricky Russert (who plays Tommy Littlestone on Cinemax’s Banshee), it depicts how prescription pain meds can destroy lives – not only the life of the person who develops an addiction to the meds, but the lives of his family members, as well.

SLLiP opens with Cam, a hard-working, blue collar, family man, being injured on the job for which he is prescripted pain medications. What should have been benign treatment turns into an addiction – thanks in large part to Cam’s doctor who continues to prescribe more and different kinds of pain meds as the answer, in spite of Cam’s concerns about how the meds were making him feel and wanting help to get off them. We watch Cam’s life and the lives of his beloved wife and daughter unravel as his addiction takes hold. Russert explains, “I wrote SLLiP originally based off true events with my family that expanded into many others’ lives as the story developed and I learned that so many people are affected by an addiction to pain meds.”

SLLiP was recently selected to be a part of the REEL Recovery Film Festival in Los Angeles and was highly received at a full house viewing in NYC amongst filmmakers – and more importantly, amongst recovery addicts who’ve lived simlar stories themselves.

SLLiP is now available for purchase and you can order your copy here. You can reach Ricky Russert via email at triplerentertainment@gmail.com or follow him on Facebook.

I loved SLLiP too, Lisa. Great eye opener about how a doctor’s prescribing practices can be so detrimental. Ricky Russert is also a very talented actor and writer!

I enjoyed SLLiP as well, Lisa! So great to have more exposure regarding prescription drug abuse.

    Thanks for sharing the film!

Thank you, so much for watching the film and the kind words! We hope that we can get this film into Sundance this January to get it in front of a larger audience. Sundance is in Utah which has an enormous amount of prescription drug issues as so many other states in our country and around the world. Your continued support is greatly appreciated!
