What is Recovery Coaching? by Cathy Taughinbaugh

Recovery Coaching is a way to put meaning and purpose back in your life.

It can be for the addicted person or for the family members such as parents of an addicted child.

There is a unique feeling of helplessness when you are the parent of an addicted child. Substance abuse can rob you of the pleasure in everyday living. It can throw you into a turmoil of constant fear for your child’s safety.

It can send you down a path you never expected.

When I discovered that my daughter was addicted, I felt emotionally exhausted and knew that my life had changed forever.

I felt shame and I felt alone.

When we are faced with watching our child who we brought into this world destroy their life, it is emotionally devastating. This kind of constant stress can be damaging to our health.

I found myself enabling my child because as parents we want to fix our children’s problems and protect them. This can cause additional issues to surface, and yet we don’t know how to stop or where to turn.

Parents can often feel stuck with feelings of despair. Life becomes centered on your child and and their journey.

I felt a huge sense of relief when my daughter entered treatment, but realized the treatment center’s focus of attention was on my child, not on me and all my confusing emotions.

Parents are often left alone to sort out their feelings and put their life back together.

As you struggled with your child’s addiction you may have had life goals that you neglected and put by the wayside. You may have felt consumed by your feelings of fear, frustration, shame and anger.

It is important to seek outside help when addiction enters your family so that you can get the support your need.

Recovery coaching is a powerful option that is available for parents who have endured the emotional exhaustion of dealing with substance abuse.

Recovery Coaching can be an amazing tool for you to find your way back to the life you deserve. You will gain clarity as you identify and articulate your goals and desires. You will understand what is keeping you stuck and how you can work through it.

Recovery Coaching is NOT counseling, therapy, or a form of advice giving. Recovery Coaching does not dwell in the past, rather it leads you to your future so that you can fulfill your goals. It does not endorse any specific method of recovery, nor does it act as a support group sponsor.

Recovery Coaching IS an available support system when you want help to deal with the aftereffects of the substance abuse of your children. You want someone to motivate, inspire and keep you accountable during the process. You want to build a strong foundation and create the life that you deserve.

There is an innate health and wellness in all of us. Your focus can be to create and maintain an amazing and meaningful life.

Do you want to feel that inner peace is within your grasp and that there can be joy again in everyday living?

If so consider Recovery Coaching to find a new awareness of how your child’s addiction may be causing you to remain stuck in an unhealthy life pattern.
